AI system automatically detects helmet violations and recognizes number plates to support real-time road safety enforcement and smart city monitoring.
India records a very high number of two-wheeler road accident deaths—over 168,000 fatalities in 2022, and 43% of these involve riders not wearing helmets. Manual enforcement of helmet rules is difficult due to traffic volume, limited manpower, and inconsistency in monitoring. Traffic police cannot monitor every street in real time, leading to frequent violations and avoidable deaths. Existing systems are either expensive or lack real-time violation detection. Therefore, there is a need for an automated, scalable, and AI-based system that can detect helmet violations and capture number plates automatically to enable efficient law enforcement and safer roads.
The system uses computer vision to detect whether a rider is wearing a helmet, and OCR to extract the bike’s number plate. Violations are identified in real time and logged automatically, enabling authorities to issue fines or alerts without manual intervention, improving enforcement efficiency and reducing accidents.

Primary customers are Traffic Police Departments, Smart City Authorities, Municipal Corporations, and Road Safety Enforcement Agencies. Secondary customers include Toll plazas, Highways Management Authorities, Private Township Security Systems, and Camera Surveillance Integrators who require automated compliance monitoring. Insurance and fleet management companies may also adopt it for safety audits and driver behavior tracking.
